Summary:
Perform close-tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation on critical support structures and fracture-critical areas.
Locate blind holes necessary for installing new structural components to existing structures.
Execute sealing, painting, shimming, and preservation of structures per standard repair processes.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, process specifications, and retrofit requirements to perform structural modifications and repairs.
Utilize tooling assemblies and fixtures for depot-level modification and repair of structural parts.
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical aircraft components; replace as needed.
Perform aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repairs, with the ability to assess non-complex electrical system functionality.
Use specialized aircraft tools, such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes, shears, etc.
Access aircraft data via computer systems and initiate online parts orders and discrepancy reports.
Maintain all necessary certifications, licenses, and permits required for assigned work.
Ascend/descend vertical ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift up to 35 pounds.
Ensure a safe working environment through proper use of Hazardous Energy and Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
Collaborate with other team members (General Mechanics, Avionics, Electronics) to meet cost and schedule goals.
Must be able to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance; U.S. Citizenship required. Interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance post-start is required.
Must pass a skills assessment at the end of the training cycle.
Comply with SA Site Tool Control and FOD (Foreign Object Debris) procedures.
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required
4+ years of experience working with non-porous metals such as aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel
4+ years of experience interpreting schematics, specifications, assembly drawings, and standard operating procedures
4+ years of experience using structural hand tools (e.g., 45 and 90 drills, pancake adapters, countersink cages, hole finders, rivet guns)
4+ years of experience performing heavy structural work, including locating, drilling, countersinking, and fastening (e.g., doublers, stringers, webs, seat tracks)
Ability to work variable shifts, including scheduled/unscheduled overtime, weekends, and holidays, as needed
Must be a U.S. Person (as defined by ITAR).
Desired Skills:
Experience in aircraft heavy maintenance (e.g., C-17 or depot-level maintenance)
Experience working with titanium aircraft structures
Ability to operate forklifts, mobile cranes, and electric-powered elevating equipment
