Team Lead, Aircraft Maintenance

What you can expect as a Team Lead, Aircraft Maintenance Technician at West Star:

The Team Leads responsibility is to supervise a team and direct project flow. In addition to human resource skills, this position requires extensive knowledge of engine and aircraft systems, including the ability to troubleshoot in the areas of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems. This position also supervises the inspection of aircraft or mechanical systems. Job duties will vary each day and will encompass projects as coordinated with the Program Manager. Will be required to work independently and lead multiple projects. Will have direct customer contact and supervise programs and customer sales.

 

You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS, including:

  • Team Management: Supervise, mentor, and guide a team of aviation maintenance and services technicians. Foster a positive work environment, encourage teamwork, and enhance technician skills through on-the-job training and performance coaching. Participate in hiring and disciplinary matters while conducting quarterly performance assessments and providing feedback. The ideal candidate is a potential successor to the Program or Project Manager and will receive mentoring as well.

  • Program Operations: Provide daily oversight of assigned technicians, including setting technician work schedules and supporting aircraft deliveries. Review time charges and manage daily manpower scheduling. Collaborate with assigned leads to ensure adequate manpower, parts, and other resource needs for project success. Partner with other team leads to adjust manpower by team to meet program goals and aircraft schedules.

  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure strict adherence to aviation regulations, safety protocols, and company policies to maintain a safe working environment for all team members and customers.

  • Quality Assurance: Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure the highest standards of service delivery and compliance with company quality assurance guidelines.

  • Training and Development: Coordinate and conduct training programs to equip team members with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively and build skill proficiency. Process Improvement: Identify areas for process enhancement and implement strategies to optimize team workflows, efficiency, and overall productivity.

  • Resource Management: Oversee the maintenance of service center tools, equipment, and hangar spaces to ensure adequate availability and proper storage and working order. Address concerns and needs promptly with the Program Manager.

  • Reporting and Documentation: Ensure all assigned team members maintain accurate and up-to-date records of activities, including work orders, R&I forms, parts tags, resolutions, reports, and relevant documentation.

  • Communication: Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English.
Job Requirements:

What You’ll Need to Bring:


Your Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent, along with an Airframe and Powerplant License, is required. Aircraft-specific factory training is preferred. A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a current passport is also ideal but not mandatory.


Your Experience:
5-10 years of aircraft maintenance experience.
8-10 years of turbine aircraft experience.
Experience supervising four or more team members.
Familiarity with FAA paperwork, work orders, and billing processes.
Customer contact experience is preferred.

We’re seeking team players who are self-motivated and can perform well in a fast-paced environment, where meeting deadlines and managing time constraints are common. Leading, motivating others, and handling customer interactions, including conflict resolution, will be part of the role.

Attend work daily as scheduled, including overtime and weekend shifts.
Notify your supervisor ahead of time if you are unable to work.
Have reliable transportation to arrive at work each day.
Perform all work following Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.

Manage multiple projects effectively.
Supervise team members’ daily tasks and operations.
Complete work orders, FAA paperwork, and billing documentation.
Develop, oversee, and expand maintenance programs for specific aircraft models.
Understand and apply relevant regulations and guidelines.
Troubleshoot and assess system operations.
Work professionally and collaboratively with others.
Coordinate projects with strong team management skills.

Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
Regular walking, bending, squatting, or sitting.

Supervision:
Work under the direction of the Program Manager and Director of Maintenance.
Directly supervise other technicians.
Require minimal oversight from the Program Manager.
Collaborate with other Team Leaders on multiple projects.

Working Conditions:
Work takes place in a hangar environment with extreme temperature variations.
Outside work during aircraft operations.
Various positions around the aircraft.

Equipment Used:
Personal hand tools provided.
Pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical tools.
Jacks, stands, lifts, and support devices.
Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment.
Personal computers and work order systems.
