Job Description

We are seeking skilled Structures Mechanics to support a high-profile aircraft program in San Antonio, TX. The role involves maintaining, repairing, and modifying aircraft structures and components, utilizing technical expertise to resolve complex issues. Candidates must have significant experience in aircraft heavy structures and demonstrate proficiency in working with various aircraft components and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform close tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation to critical support structures and fracture critical areas.
  • Locate blind holes necessary for installation of new structural items to existing structure.
  • Conduct efforts associated with sealing, painting, shimming, and preserving structure in accordance with standard repair processes.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, process specifications, and retrofit requirements to perform structural modification/repair.
  • Access and manipulate computer systems for work instructions, drawings, and training.
  • Use tooling assemblies and fixtures for depot-level modification and repair of structural parts.
  • Provide professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufacturers manuals.
  • Troubleshoot and repair aircraft mechanical components, and replace components as necessary.
  • Utilize aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, and micrometers.
  • Provide guidance and technical expertise to lower-level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.
  • Operate a forklift, mobile crane, and riding type electric powered elevating equipment to accomplish work assignments.
  • Maintain necessary certifications, licenses, and permits as required for assigned work.
  • Work various shifts and/or an alternate baseline schedule that may frequently change to support mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
Essential Skills
  • 4+ years of on-aircraft heavy structures experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in close tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation on critical support structures.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft repair procedures, sheet metal/structural modifications, and repair.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
  • Knowledgeable in shop mathematics and practices.
  • Experience with schematics, specifications, assembly drawings, and standard operating procedures.
  • Proficient in computer skills including aircraft-related systems and basic office software.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with VIP aircraft or specialty aircraft interiors installations within the last ten years.
  • FAA certification in Airframe and/or Power Plant license is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain customer approval for access, with a BG check conducted.

Work Environment

The work environment involves exposure to noise and working on elevated platforms. Employees must use personal protective gear and have the ability to lift loads up to 35 pounds. The role requires frequent standing, walking, and balancing on ladders or uneven surfaces. Candidates should be prepared to work variable shifts and occasional overtime to meet project demands.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
