ABOUT US

Since 1978 Air Inuit has been providing scheduled, charter, cargo, and emergency air transportation services in Nunavik and beyond, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Collectively owned by the Inuit of Nunavik, through the Makivik Corporation, the airline operates a fleet of over 35 aircraft ranging from a Twin Otter 300 Series to a Boeing 737 200C, 300 and 800 and employs over 1000 employees in one of the most challenging flight environments.

POSITION OVERVIEW

A strategic role at the heart of our northern operations.

Reporting to the Vice President – Ground Operations, the Director of Ground Operations plays a key role in the day‑to‑day performance of our network, which covers the 14 communities of Nunavik, as well as Sanikiluaq, La Grande, Sept‑Îles and Schefferville. As a true bridge between frontline teams and senior leadership, this person will be a mobilizing leader capable of turning operational challenges into opportunities for continuous improvement.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and coordinate operations for Class 1, 2 and 3 stations to ensure safe, efficient and high‑quality activities aligned with our standards.
  • Manage operational personnel: resource planning, daily supervision, performance evaluations and skills development.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of procedures, manuals, policies and programs established by the company and by the Vice President.
  • Collaborate with the infrastructure lead (buildings, staff housing, etc.) to ensure optimal and sustainable management of facilities in northern environments.
  • Actively participate in the Integrated Safety Management System (SMS/IMS) and ensure rigorous follow‑up on corrective action.
  • Ensure operational compliance with Transport Canada requirements, internal standards and contractual obligations.
  • Contribute to the department’s budget preparation and ensure thorough monitoring and analysis.
  • Compile, analyze and communicate operational performance indicators to support leadership decision‑making.
  • Represent the organization with regional partners (ARK, MTMD, TC, SDBJ, etc.) and maintain strong, respectful and professional relationships.
  • Participate in negotiations, renewals and evaluations of service agreements with local suppliers and consultants.
  • Support the evolution of tools, processes and operational practices.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives or special mandates assigned by the Vice President.

IDEAL PROFILE

  • Dynamic, mobilizing leadership focused on performance.
  • 5 to 7 years of management experience in commercial aviation or a complex operational environment.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams in demanding contexts.
  • Fluency in French and English; knowledge of Inuktitut is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of northern environments, their realities and their local partnerships.
  • Education in administration, management or a related field is an asset.
  • Solid knowledge of air transport regulations and the ability to ensure day‑to‑day compliance.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and decision‑making abilities in dynamic environments.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective collaborations with various internal and external partners.
  • Proactive presence in the field, including frequent travel across the network.
  • Ability to obtain a Transport Canada Restricted Area Security Card and possession of a valid passport.

COMPENSATION

  • Salary and benefits are determined in accordance with company policy.
