Job Title: Machine Grinder
Job Description
The Machine Grinder performs precision grinding of aircraft and engine components in accordance with FAA regulations, approved technical data, and internal quality standards. This role supports the repair and overhaul of aerospace components to restore parts to airworthy condition while maintaining strict compliance with customer requirements and the Quality Management System.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual and CNC grinding equipment, including surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and ID/OD grinders, to perform precision material removal on aircraft components.
- Grind, polish, and finish aerospace parts to close tolerances in accordance with engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and FAA-approved technical data.
- Interpret and comply with FAA regulations, customer specifications, repair manuals, and work order travelers during all grinding operations.
- Measure and verify dimensions using precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and indicators to ensure parts meet specified tolerances.
- Inspect incoming parts for damage, wear, and serviceability prior to performing grinding operations.
- Maintain proper tool control, foreign object debris (FOD) prevention, and safety discipline in accordance with Repair Station procedures.
- Accurately document all work performed in job travelers and production records to ensure full traceability and audit compliance.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, including wheel dressing, setup verification, and basic troubleshooting, to keep equipment in proper working condition.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area by performing regular housekeeping activities in the machine shop.
- Identify nonconforming conditions, defects, or irregularities and promptly report discrepancies to supervision or Quality personnel as required.
- Collaborate closely with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to ensure parts meet FAA airworthiness requirements and customer expectations.
- Comply with all company safety policies, OSHA standards, and FAA Part 145 regulations while operating grinding equipment and handling materials.
- Support production goals by working efficiently to meet schedule requirements while upholding strict quality standards.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to grinding processes, tooling, and workflow where applicable.
Essential Skills
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience operating grinding machines in a manufacturing, aerospace, or repair environment.
- Proven ability to set up and operate manual and/or CNC grinding machines, including surface, cylindrical, and ID/OD grinders.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical manuals.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and indicators to verify close tolerances.
- Working knowledge of grinding materials, wheels, feeds, and speeds.
- Strong attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset when working to tight tolerances.
- Ability to interpret and follow FAA regulations, customer specifications, repair manuals, and work order travelers.
- Capability to accurately complete production records and job travelers for traceability and compliance.
- Ability to stand for extended periods while performing grinding operations.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to safely operate machinery and handle sharp or rotating tools in a production environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in an aerospace or FAA Part 145 Repair Station environment.
- Experience grinding aircraft engine or structural components.
- Familiarity with AS9100 and FAA quality systems and documentation requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to work to very tight tolerances on high-value aircraft parts.
- Experience in machine operating and production work in a precision manufacturing setting.
- Experience performing visual inspection to ensure parts meet quality standards.
- Comfort working in a structured environment with established quality and safety procedures.

Work Environment
This position is based in a manufacturing and aircraft component repair shop that focuses on aerospace grinding and overhaul work. You will work Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with overtime available as needed to support production demands. The environment includes active machinery, grinding equipment, and typical machine shop conditions, with exposure to noise, metal dust, and rotating equipment. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in accordance with company and FAA safety policies, and safety procedures are strictly enforced to meet OSHA and FAA Part 145 standards. The facility emphasizes organized work areas, proper tool control, and foreign object debris (FOD) prevention to maintain a clean, efficient, and compliant shop.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Tulsa, OK.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.00 - $32.00/hr.
